The year 2020 shocked the society with the Covid-19 epidemic and its consequences.

People feared for their families, for their lives and future. Personal communication was severely restricted.

Like many other areas of human life, the art and culture industry suffered from Corona lockdown. The events with several people in one room were only possible to a limited extent. Suddenly it became no longer possible to lead ones life as it used to be. Traffic between cities and countries around the globe has been almost cut. The global social, cultural and economic relations between people wer set under pressure.

A group of like-minded musicians had an idea of founding an international competition for young artists from 6 to 17 years of age. This new competition has been named Joseph Haydn International Youth Competition after the famous Viennese classical composer Joseph Haydn.

The new Joseph Haydn International Youth Competition is intended to offer young artists a stage, an opportunity for further development and motivation. The spirit of competition lies in the nature of Joseph Haydn’s personality.

Musicians and composers consider Joseph Haydn in many ways like a father. “Papa” Haydn supported directly or indirectly his orchestral musicians in Haydn’s Esterházy time with money or assistance before Prince Esterházy. After some time, Joseph Haydn has received a second name “Papa” in music circles. The Joseph Haydn International Youth Competition is intended to be a support for the young musicians, just like “Papa” Haydn has once become a musical and financial support for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and many other musicians.

Papa Haydn Prize

10 % of 2nd Round participants

The Papa Haydn Prize is the core prize of the musical part of the youth competition. The fine music begins with the small but very important details. Good music sheets and good music accessories are essential for the progress.

With multiple participation in the competition (as long as competition rules allow that), in addition to the main prizes won, self-presentation, professional evaluation by the jury, presence on YouTube and Facebook, invitations to online or “offline” masterclasses and lessons, invitations to the concerts, a small music library or a good set of musical utilities can be build up.

Together we will break the boundaries and let art bloom forever!
